- How do I download short films over the internet?
All uploaded films can be viewed for 28 days over the internet, just by checking out the forums. By clicking on a link in the film summary, you will be prompted to download a video file (mp4, 3gp, mpg etc) to your local hard drive. Most films will be easily viewed with current media players, such as RealPlayer, Quicktime, Windows Media Player or almost any other file player. However, older players may require an update for some file types to work.
To transfer a file from your local hard drive to your mobile device, check the documentation that came with your device. Some devices will accept file transfer over a special cable, docking station, wireless or bluetooth connection.
- How do I download short films on my mobile/pda etc?
If your phone, PDA or portable media player has wap, 3G or internet access, just go to www.video-fu.com. Devices that support html/xhtml can browse the forum and check out the latest short films, read the latest discussions, post responses etc. If your devices only supports WAP or WAP2.0, you will be redirected to the wap section, where you download the latest videos and read the most recent forum posts. However, you will not be able to log into the forum, or post a reply. Please note: some wap gateways will prevent you from downloading large files, such as videos. Please check with your wireless provider's limitations if you have any problems.
If you wish to subscribe to all films by a video-fu uploader, or within a specific category (ie Science Fiction) you can subscribe either through iTunes or through the Video-Fu RSS filter. Any changes, or new films will be automatically flagged for you to download.
- I cant get a downloaded video to work!
Some files may not be compatible with your device. The most common incompatibility is being able to see the video, but have no sound, or vice-versa. This is usually due to lack of support for the encoding by whichever program you are viewing the file with. If you have an alternative method or program, please try it. Unfortunately, although there are standards within the digital media industry, there is still enough flexibility to cause some target audiences to miss out. Encoding for the generic market may reach the widest audience, but doesnt allow for progress in terms of higher compression, faster download ability, sound performance, picture quality etc. Sometimes the audience needs to catch up with that progress and that may mean updating your media player, device firmware, operating system etc.
